The Instrument Rating exams will be offered very soon!

Our team of Transport Canada examiners, seasoned flight instructors and airline pilots enabled us to put together the most recent and comprehensive examination question bank possible.

The questions are extremely close to the actual exam and this will put you in a confident position when attempting the Transport Canada Aviation exam.

As real world pilots, we have all been through the stages needed to become a competent and successful career pilot. We wanted to make this as easy as possible, and with our tips we can guarantee successful completion of all the Transport Canada exams.

How to use our resources

First and foremost make sure you set a time line to write the exam.  It is very important that you do not take long breaks when trying to study.  Within 2 days you will have remembered 70% of what you have learned.

We strongly suggest you complete the quizzes in each section before attempting the exams. The areas are organized into the TC study guide subjects which are: Air Law, Meteorology, Navigation and General Knowledge.

Continuously revise until the examination date.  This will make sure you have reviewed and not lost the information needed.

We suggest that you complete EVERY exam related to the licence or rating.

These exams are extremely similar to T.C’s exams so you must go through all of them to make sure you know where you are in your studies and what areas you are lacking knowledge.

We have references and also as a student you can use all the resources online to gain a clearer understanding.  Google and YouTube are amazing resources, don’t forget them!

Have the current study and reference guide to make sure you have covered all areas. When setting up questions we made sure they are consistent and relevant to the study guide provided by Transport Canada.

Make a list as you are studying and put down the areas you need to review as you are going through the exams on this site.

We do suggest that you keep going through them until you are confident that you can answer each one.

Do not go over areas you are knowledgeable in and do not get distracted: Concentrate on the task in hand.

Make notes as you study! This will save trying to finding the information at a later date and if the rating lapses. You may need to rewrite so have everything handy! It also helps to make a cheat sheet but do not cheat!! Those sheets condense the knowledge to a manageable size.

Just quick notes to jog your memory.

Remember, we have nearly every question they could ask, your responsibility is to try to understand the areas we have highlighted in our exams

There is no need to cram right before an exam, because it will confuse you just before your ready to write.

Give yourself a free day before your exam, this will calm you down. Do something fun. It is amazing how the mind works! You may think the information may disappear but it doesn’t if you use our exams.

How to complete the actual Transport Canada Exams

Transport Canada uses multiple choice questions in their examinations. They use something called “distracters” which are similar in the actual answer. They use this technique to identify a person who does not have the required knowledge.

Some questions may confuse you as they are very similar. Pick the one that is most appropriate or more correct.

You MUST read the questions slowly and carefully, and then read it again! Draw a diagram if needed to help visualize the problem.

Understand what exactly is being asked and check for key words. And try to answer the question without looking at the answers. This will help with your first response to the question.

You may need to round up as the answer is not exact. Go for the one that is the safer option. i.e answer is  10.5 gallons and they give 10 and 11 gallons. Pick 11 gallons.

Remember depending on what calculator or E6B you use the answers may differ slightly.

Do not forget reserves on certain questions, T.C expects you to add this as a legal requirement! Pretend you are actually doing the flight. You would always add the reserves in case of an emergency.

If you do not know it straight away, the exam lets you make a bookmark to try again later. I really suggest moving on as your mind may work this out later on its own or a question after jogs your memory.

You have differing time limits depending on the exam you are writing, so do not spend too much time on one question. Generally you will get 3 hours for most examinations. Some other questions may need more time. So move on once you select the answer.

You may ask the invigilator for help understanding something; they will not give you an answer but can clarify an issue. For example the map was faded and you couldn’t see YVR. The invigilator can point to where it is or fix the issue by replacing the map.

At the end of the exam go through the bookmarked questions and complete every question. You don’t get anything if you do not answer.

If you have time at the end, check every answer.  Do not second guess, generally your first answer is correct. Go with your gut instinct. Our exams will prepare you!!!

We suggest that when you have gone through all the references and have a good knowledge base, that you try to complete the exams in the allotted time frame. This will help you time manage in the real exam.

Transport Canada has made drastic changes to the exam in recent years. They made sure each question is not dependant on the previous answer. This was to stop the student being penalized for a previous incorrect answer.

What to expect on the day of your exam

Make sure you know the times and days that T.C lets you write the examination. They are different depending on which office you use. Make a call or check on the official site.

You should have had a good night sleep and a good breakfast. You are allowed to take a clear container of water with you in the examination room.

Arrive early, in case of parking problems or traffic delays. You do not want to be in a rush!

Bring everything you are allowed in the exam and all the relevant paper work.

Recommendations, Log Book, Pilot Licence, Medical, Navigational Ruler, E6B, Flight Calculator, Photo ID, Watch and Payment Methods.

Pencils, markers, paper, maps and charts are provided.

You will go to the exam office and go to the desk. The person behind will check your logbook, recommendation letter, licence, medical and fill a form needed to go to payment office.

You will go to payment office and pay the fee then go back to the examination office.

Once you have arrived they will give you the relevant charts, paper, markers and pencils. Make sure you do not have anything on you that you are not allowed to take into the examination room.

The exam room has CCTV and a two way mirror to deter cheating. You do not need to cheat as you have been through our resources!

You may use the lavatory but you must ask the invigilator before you leave.

You will enter the exam room, before you start the exam, get set up. The exam does not start until you select the start exam button. So use this time to get familiar with the maps, legend, table, charts etc. Make sure you can read everything as they use photocopies at T.C and they may be faded. Get another one!

Write down anything you may need to remember on the paper provided, equations or anything you think you may forget.

I know this may be hard but try to relax, your mind works much more effectively when you are not under stress. What is the worst that can happen? You fail and rewrite!!  It is not the end of the world!!

All it does is make you work harder.

Once the exam is completed, you will be given your mark very quickly. If for any reason you fail, you must wait 2 weeks before you can attempt the exam again. The time period increases if you fail again.

This can be found on T.C’s examination section.

But saying that, our exam resources will give you all the questions you need to achieve a good exam mark, this is why we can give a guarantee.

We understand the mental and financial pressure that is inflicted on us pilots, but we love what we do.

That’s why we decided to make this website. It is an invaluable tool which we all wish we had but now it has finally arrived.

We will be continually updating as flight training evolves and are in the process of adding additional IFR exams, ATPL exams and ground school courses. This will be the one place for all your examination needs.

Thank you for choosing Pilot Exams Canada.
